The Mexico City Grand Prix began with Verstappen making a superb start from third and taking the lead before turn 1. Home driver Pérez attacked around the outside but collided with Leclerc, launched into the air and retired on lap one. In the middle phase Magnussen suffered a heavy crash, causing a red flag, but Verstappen retained control after the restart. Hamilton used his tyres well to pass Leclerc for second and later set fastest lap. Norris recovered strongly from 17th to fifth. Verstappen won, Hamilton finished second and Leclerc third, while Ricciardo scored valuable points in seventh.
