Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake

Overview

Alfa Romeo is one of the foundational names of the Formula 1 World Championship. The Italian marque was present at the start of the modern championship in 1950, when Giuseppe Farina became the first official F1 World Champion. Juan Manuel Fangio followed with another title for Alfa Romeo in 1951. Backed by pre-war Grand Prix experience, Alfa helped define the early competitive standard of Formula 1. After its first championship successes, Alfa Romeo moved in and out of Formula 1 in different forms, including as an engine supplier and later as a works team in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In the modern era, the Alfa Romeo name returned through a title partnership with Sauber. That period did not bring wins, but it restored a historic badge to the grid and connected the brand to a new generation of fans. The Alfa Romeo-Sauber partnership ended after 2023 as the Sauber operation moved toward its future with Audi. Alfa Romeo’s F1 legacy is therefore not a single continuous team story, but a sequence of powerful chapters: early domination, technical returns, and modern brand revival. Above all, it remains one of the names that shaped Formula 1 at its birth.
