Valtteri Bottas was born in Nastola, Finland, in 1989 and rose through karting and the European junior ladder before reaching Formula 1. Success in Formula Renault, Formula 3 and GP3 led to a role with Williams, where he made his Grand Prix debut in 2013. Calm, precise and technically reliable, Bottas quickly built a reputation as one of the strongest Finnish drivers of his generation. Bottas joined Mercedes in 2017 as Lewis Hamilton’s team-mate and became an important part of the team’s dominant hybrid-era run. He won 10 Grands Prix, often showing excellent qualifying speed and strong control from the front. At the same time, racing alongside Hamilton meant that his career was frequently judged through comparison with one of F1’s greatest drivers. From 2022, he moved to Alfa Romeo/Sauber and took on a senior leadership role. Bottas is now a Cadillac driver, bringing experience to a new Formula 1 project. His Mercedes race-winning background, Sauber leadership period and technical feedback make him valuable for a team building toward its place on the grid. He did not become World Champion, but his wins, professionalism and ability to support major team projects make him one of the key Finnish figures of modern Formula 1.
