Sergio Pérez was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1990 and moved to Europe as a teenager to pursue a racing career. Backed by Mexican sponsors and shaped by years away from home, he developed through junior categories before making his Formula 1 debut with Sauber in 2011. His early performances showed excellent tyre management and an ability to seize unusual race opportunities. Pérez scored podiums with Sauber, Force India and Racing Point, becoming one of the strongest midfield drivers of his era. His first F1 win came at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix after years of near misses, and it helped secure a move to Red Bull. There he played a supporting but important role alongside Max Verstappen, winning races and contributing to championship campaigns. By 2026, Pérez is no longer in the same dominant Red Bull position, but his impact on Formula 1 remains clear. He brought Mexican fans back to the centre of the sport and built a long career through race craft, tyre skill and resilience. His story is one of persistence: a driver who survived the midfield, reached the front, and became a national sporting figure.
