The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix opened with an immediate fight between polesitter Max Verstappen and second-starting Oscar Piastri. Piastri took the inside into turn 1, while Verstappen went off track and rejoined ahead, earning a five-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage. Early contact between Yuki Tsunoda and Pierre Gasly caused Gasly to crash and brought out the safety car. In the middle phase Piastri used strategy and Verstappen's penalty to take effective control. Lando Norris recovered from tenth and joined the late fight behind Charles Leclerc. Piastri won ahead of Verstappen and Leclerc, and the victory put him into the championship lead for the first time.
