The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix began with polesitter Oscar Piastri making a strong start, but Max Verstappen swept around the outside at Tamburello to take the lead in the opening phase. Piastri stopped early, while Verstappen extended his first stint. A virtual safety car on lap 29 for Esteban Ocon's mechanical problem heavily favoured drivers who had not yet stopped. Later, Kimi Antonelli's retirement brought out a full safety car and compressed the field again. After the restart, Lando Norris used fresher tyres to pass Piastri for second, but Verstappen controlled the final laps and won. Norris finished second, Piastri third, and Hamilton recovered from 12th to fourth.
