The Spanish Grand Prix began with polesitter Norris losing out at the start, while Russell swept around the outside to take the lead. Verstappen quickly passed Russell and took control of the race in the opening phase. Norris lost time behind Russell during the first stint, then used tyre advantage later to chase back toward the front. Verstappen managed the strategy and pace well enough to preserve the lead, and although Norris closed in the final stint, he could not catch him. Hamilton passed Russell to take third and scored his first podium of 2024. Verstappen won ahead of Norris and Hamilton, highlighting both McLaren's pace and Red Bull's execution.
