In the middle phase, Norris's pit strategy put him ahead of Piastri, but McLaren later instructed him to return the position. Norris resisted for several laps before finally letting Piastri back into the lead. Behind them, Verstappen and Hamilton made contact, dropping Verstappen to fifth.
