The Hungarian Grand Prix began with Piastri passing polesitter Norris before turn 1, giving McLaren an early one-two. Verstappen ran wide and lost momentum, becoming involved in a tense fight with Hamilton. In the middle phase, Norris's pit strategy put him ahead of Piastri, but McLaren later instructed him to return the position. Norris resisted for several laps before finally letting Piastri back into the lead. Behind them, Verstappen and Hamilton made contact, dropping Verstappen to fifth. Piastri took his first Formula One victory, Norris finished second and Hamilton third. McLaren completed an important one-two finish.
