Benetton

Benetton spent 2000 and 2001 in the final chapter of its Formula 1 life. The team had won titles with Michael Schumacher in the 1990s, but by the early 2000s its competitiveness had faded. Giancarlo Fisichella, Alexander Wurz and Jenson Button drove difficult cars while Renault prepared to take full control. From 2002 the organisation became Renault F1. Benetton’s 2000s presence was therefore both the end of a famous independent identity and the beginning of the structure that would later win championships with Fernando Alonso.
