Peter Revson

Peter Revson was born in New York in 1939 and chose a racing career despite coming from a wealthy and prominent family. He built his reputation in sports cars and North American racing, including Can-Am and IndyCar, before becoming a serious Formula 1 contender with McLaren. Stylish, intelligent and genuinely fast, Revson was one of the strongest American international racers of his generation. In Formula 1, Revson won two Grands Prix for McLaren in 1973, taking victory at the British and Canadian Grands Prix. He was also competitive in other major categories, showing versatility across F1, Can-Am and the Indianapolis 500. His 1973 season established him as more than a wealthy amateur; he was a front-line professional capable of winning at the highest level. Revson died in 1974 after a testing accident with Shadow. His Formula 1 career was brief, but his significance remains strong as an American Grand Prix winner and a driver who succeeded across several elite forms of racing. His legacy combines glamour, ability and the danger of a period when international motorsport still demanded enormous personal risk.
