Alain Prost

Alain Prost was born near Saint-Chamond, France, in 1955 and came to motorsport after first showing interest in other sports. His rise through karting and junior single-seaters was rapid, and he entered Formula 1 with McLaren in 1980. Prost soon became known for a smooth, economical driving style and an exceptional ability to think through races, earning the nickname “The Professor.” Prost won four World Championships with McLaren and Williams, building his success on precision, consistency and strategic intelligence. His rivalry with Ayrton Senna became one of the defining stories of Formula 1, mixing sporting brilliance with deep personal and political tension. Prost also battled Niki Lauda, Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet in an era filled with champions. After retiring, Prost ran his own team and later returned to the paddock in advisory and ambassadorial roles. His legacy is sometimes overshadowed by Senna’s myth, but Prost’s record and craft remain extraordinary. He was not the loudest or most spectacular champion, but few drivers have ever understood how to win a Grand Prix or a championship more completely.
