Alexander Wurz

Overview

Alexander Wurz is an Austrian driver whose 2000s career included Benetton, extensive McLaren testing work and a Williams race return. Despite his height, he was technically sharp and highly valued as a development driver, especially at McLaren. In 2005 he made a substitute appearance at the San Marino Grand Prix and was classified on the podium, and in 2007 he returned full-time with Williams, scoring a podium in Canada. Wurz’s contribution to F1 was greater than his race count suggests, combining development expertise, occasional race results and later endurance-racing success.
