Narain Karthikeyan

Overview

Narain Karthikeyan is an Indian driver who debuted with Jordan in 2005 and became India’s first Formula 1 racer. The team was already losing competitiveness, but he scored points by finishing fourth at the unusual United States Grand Prix. His results were heavily limited by machinery, yet his historical importance for Indian motorsport was enormous. He later continued in testing and other categories before returning to F1 in the 2010s. Karthikeyan’s 2000s career opened a path for Indian representation on the Grand Prix grid and helped raise F1’s profile in his home country.
