Markus Winkelhock

Overview

Markus Winkelhock is a German driver whose Formula 1 career consisted of a single start for Spyker at the 2007 European Grand Prix. In sudden rain, he started from the pit lane on wet tyres and briefly led the race before the red flag, creating one of the most unusual stories of the decade. He eventually retired, but officially led laps in his only Grand Prix appearance. Few drivers have made such a memorable impact from a single start. After F1, Winkelhock built a strong GT racing career.
