Esteban Gutiérrez
Esteban Gutiérrez was born in Monterrey, Mexico, in 1991 and rose through karting and junior single-seaters during a period when Mexican interest in Formula 1 was growing again. He won the GP3 Series title in 2010 and became part of Sauber’s development structure. His technical approach and junior results helped him earn a Formula 1 race seat with Sauber in 2013. Gutiérrez raced for Sauber and later Haas, showing professionalism and occasional speed, though consistent points were hard to secure. His F1 career unfolded in teams that were often fighting in the midfield or lower order, and he became known more for development work than headline results. He also spent time in test and reserve roles, including connections with Ferrari and Mercedes. After his F1 race career, Gutiérrez remained involved in motorsport through reserve duties, Formula E appearances and ambassadorial work. Alongside Sergio Pérez, he helped represent Mexico during a renewed era of national visibility in Formula 1. His legacy is not built on wins, but on persistence, technical contribution and being part of Mexico’s modern F1 presence.
