Ayrton Senna
Ayrton Senna was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1960 and became one of the most gifted drivers motorsport has ever seen. After karting success, he moved to Europe and rose through Formula Ford and Formula 3 before entering Formula 1 with Toleman in 1984. His wet-weather brilliance in Monaco that year announced a talent whose intensity and precision would soon define an era. Senna won three World Championships with McLaren in 1988, 1990 and 1991. His rivalry with Alain Prost produced some of Formula 1’s most famous and controversial moments, including title-deciding clashes at Suzuka. Senna’s qualifying speed, commitment and spiritual language about driving created an aura unlike almost any other driver. He was both admired and feared for the depth of his competitive will. Senna died at Imola in 1994 while racing for Williams, a tragedy that changed Formula 1’s approach to safety. In Brazil and across the world, his legacy remains immense. He is remembered not only for victories and poles, but for the emotional force he brought to racing. For many fans, Senna represents the purest and most intense expression of a Formula 1 driver.
