Overview

Toyota entered Formula 1 in 2002 as a heavily funded works team with major ambitions. It employed drivers such as Mika Salo, Olivier Panis, Jarno Trulli, Ralf Schumacher and Timo Glock, scoring podiums and even pole positions but never achieving a Grand Prix victory. The 2005 season was its strongest, with Trulli and Ralf fighting near the front. Toyota had resources and technical capability, yet often lacked the flexibility and final step needed to win. It withdrew after 2009 and remains one of F1’s largest winless projects.
