Sébastien Buemi
Sébastien Buemi was born in Aigle, Switzerland, in 1988 and progressed through karting and the European junior ladder before becoming part of the Red Bull driver programme. He gained experience in Formula 3 and GP2, then made his Formula 1 debut with Toro Rosso in 2009. As a Swiss driver returning to the full-time Grand Prix grid, he arrived with strong junior credentials and Red Bull backing. Buemi raced for Toro Rosso from 2009 to 2011, scoring points but never receiving machinery capable of regular front-running results. Like many drivers in the Red Bull system, he faced intense pressure and eventually lost his race seat. He remained valuable to the wider Red Bull organisation, however, serving for many years as a reserve and development driver with important simulator and technical responsibilities. After his main Formula 1 career, Buemi became highly successful in Formula E and endurance racing. He won the Formula E championship and achieved major success with Toyota at Le Mans, including multiple 24 Hours victories. He did not win in Formula 1, but his broader career is exceptional: Buemi stands as one of the most accomplished modern drivers across electric racing and sports car endurance competition.
